I have read all of the author's works, but this one was the best in terms of originality and character development. If your accept the premise that a woman could fall in love with and marry the killer of her son, then the rest of the story is highly engrossing and entertaining. You may not like the major characters in this tale, but KL Slater is such a talented writer of suspense novels that you can empathize with their emotions and situations as they deal with the consequences of this May-December romance. I read this book in one sitting, primarily because I wanted to discover the secrets each major character was hiding and if I had guessed their hidden motives. The author drops significant clues regarding the true nature of the murder and its aftermath, but you will be surprised until the very last page. I enthusiastically recommend this book! Ten years ago, Bridget's son Jesse was killed by his best friend Tom. Since then, Tom's mother has broken all ties with Bridget due to her son being "wrongly" incarcerated. Now Bridget marries Tom in spite of the fact that he killed her son.The story has several flashbacks to how strong the bonds between the two families were in the past and how broken and distorted it is now. It is a VERY slow tale. If this is a psychological thriller as advertised, I haven't seen it yet. It is definitely a story about two people creating emotional turmoil, but nothing more. I stopped at 30% and it is the first book in five years that I haven't finished. I just couldn't take it anymore.
